Lot 313:
A Collection of Mid-20th Century British First Day Covers, Brooke Bond Picture Card Albums, and Comic Hero Cards including Batman
Description
A diverse collection of mid-20th century paper ephemera and collectibles, predominantly British. The lot comprises a partial ring-bound album containing numerous First Day Covers in clear plastic sleeves, including one postmarked “LEEDS” on “24 JUL 196X” (likely 1968 or 1969), depicting “SIR FRANCIS CHICHESTER IN GIPSY MOTH IV,” and addressed in German to “Herr Pilan G. Barisch, 24 Lübeck, Segebergstraße 24, Deutschland.” Also present are three softcover Brooke Bond Picture Card albums, titled “History of the Motor Car,” “Flags & Emblems of the World,” and “Famous People 1869-1969,” the latter marked 6d, indicating a pre-1971 British currency date. Accompanying these are numerous stacks of smaller picture cards, some secured with elastic bands, depicting themes such as comic heroes (including Batman and Land of the Giants), butterflies, flowers, vintage vehicles, trains, and ships. A small metal tray holding a group of tarnished circular metal coins or tokens completes the collection.
