A Collection of Persian Khatam Inlaid Wooden Boxes and a Ruby-Red Decanter Set
Description
A collection comprising two Persian Khatam inlaid wooden open-topped desk sets, a Persian Khatam inlaid wooden lidded box with a hand-painted hunting scene, and a ruby-red glass or crystal decanter with six matching small stemmed cups. The two open-topped boxes feature intricate geometric and floral Khatam-kari style marquetry. The smaller, lidded rectangular wooden box exhibits similar marquetry borders and a central lid panel depicting a Persian miniature-style painting of figures on horseback in a landscape. The ruby-red glass or crystal decanter and its six matching small stemmed cups are extensively decorated with gilt floral motifs and small portrait medallions of a male figure in traditional attire. The decanter is fitted with an orange screw-top cap, bearing faint handwritten Persian script tentatively deciphered as ‘حسن جعفري’ (Hassan Jafari) and ‘روحاني’ (Rohani).
