Description
A vintage Landers, Frary & Clark Universal No. 8 Three-Minute Bread Maker, dating from circa 1904. This utilitarian hand-cranked mechanical bread maker comprises a galvanized steel or tin bucket with two side handles and a partially detached lid. A central cast iron or steel hand-crank mechanism with a wooden knob protrudes through the lid. The exterior of the bucket features a raised oval plaque embossed with “No. 8 THREE-MINUTE BREAD MAKER,” stating it was “AWARDED GOLD MEDAL AT ST. LOUIS EXPOSITION 1904,” and manufactured by “S.C.A.S. CO. NEW BRITAIN, CONN.” The interior reveals a two-bladed metal agitator assembly.
