A Collection of Decorative Mid-Century Ceramics and Metalwork including H. Bequet and Dumler and Breiden
Description
This collection consists of three ceramic pieces and two metal sculptures. The ceramic items include a large earthenware trumpet vase by H. Bequet featuring a scalloped, undulating rim. The body is finished in a pale celadon green ground and is hand-painted with a tropical bird perched among orange hibiscus-style flowers. The rim and flared foot feature a moulded basketweave texture highlighted with a darker glaze. The base is marked with a stamp for H. Bequet, Quaregnon, Belgium, and is impressed with the number 580. Also present is a small earthenware bowl by Dumler and Breiden with a dark chocolate brown high-gloss glaze, decorated with three hand-applied abstract heart-shaped motifs in thick white, red, and green slip. The base is impressed with the manufacturer mark, Germany, and model number 253/12. The third ceramic piece is a bulbous earthenware vase with a ruffled rim, featuring a speckled cream-coloured finish with vertical drips of glossy primary-coloured glazes, marked 114 and WL to the base. The metalwork comprises a brutalist welded sculpture of a figure seated at a workbench, constructed from iron and steel components with a dark oxidized finish, and a copper-toned sculpture of a flower bud with a heavy green verdigris patina on a circular base.
