Lot 477:
A Ceramic Model of a Shire Horse and Barrel Dray
Description
A ceramic model of a Shire horse depicted in a walking pose, finished in a brown glaze with a dark mane and tail, and four white feathered socks. The horse is dressed in a red show harness featuring gold-toned metal chains and studs. It is hitched to a two-wheeled dray finished in black with gold-toned accents on the wheel rims and frame, carrying four black barrels with gold-toned hoops. A white rectangular inventory label with the number 1526 is adhered to the horse’s left flank. No manufacturer’s backstamp is visible, though the model is in the style of mid-20th-century Staffordshire ceramics such as Melba Ware.
Length: approximately 22 cm.
