A Set of Ten Royal Copenhagen The Hans Christian Andersen Series Porcelain Plates
Description
A set of ten decorative porcelain plates by the Danish manufacturer Royal Copenhagen, featuring scenes from the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen. Each plate is of circular form with a wide, ornate gold-gilded border. The centres are decorated with polychrome vignettes depicting various recognisable stories including The Princess and the Pea, The Little Match Girl, The Shepherdess and the Chimney Sweep, Thumbelina, and The Emperor’s New Clothes. The base of each plate bears the green printed factory mark of a crown within a circle of text reading Royal Copenhagen Denmark. Below this are three hand-painted blue wavy lines and the pattern or series number 9628 in gold script.
