A Collection of Chinese Folk or Opera Dolls attributed to Yu Chu
Description
A collection of Chinese folk or opera dolls, attributed to Yu Chu of Taiwan based on visual characteristics and market consensus. The dolls feature hand-painted composition or hard-paste heads and hands on poseable wire-frame bodies covered in cloth. Each figure is mounted on a circular black base. The dolls have fixed, hand-painted eyes and black wigged hair styled with pins, faux flowers, and beads. They wear original traditional costumes constructed from silk or satin-type fabrics, decorated with embroidery, braided trim, sequins, and tassels in vibrant colours including teal, orange, cream, and green. Each doll is depicted with a traditional accessory, including a flute, a fan, or a flower. Circular gold foil stickers are affixed to the underside of two bases, with illegible text. One base is marked with a handwritten paper inventory label 501.
