Description

This is a signed limited edition lithographic print titled Theakston: A Name in North Yorkshire, produced in December 1990. The work was researched and compiled by Kenneth Godden BA (Hons) at the request of the Theakston Brewery. The print provides a genealogical and historical study of the Theakston surname, featuring a central heraldic coat of arms granted to Sir Richard Theheston in 1587. The composition includes a map of Theakston and Surrounding Area and a secondary map depicting historical migrations to Britain. The text details the origins of the name through Roman, Saxon, Viking, and Norman periods. It is further decorated with illustrations of a Viking longship and a heraldic figure. The print is signed in pencil by the artist, Alfred M. Alderson, in the lower left margin. An informational label on the reverse is signed in blue ink by Michael Theakston and dated December 1990. The item is double mounted and housed in a gilt-edged wooden frame. Labels for The Dales Gallery, Bedale, and Millfield Studio are present on the reverse.
