19th Century Stained Pine Blanket Chest
Description
A 19th-century pine blanket chest of simple rectangular form, typical of utilitarian country furniture. The exterior is finished with a dark stain, while the interior remains in a natural, unlined state, showing characteristic knots and wood grain. The hinged lid is reinforced with two internal wooden battens and is fitted with a central iron D-handle pull. It is attached to the carcase by a pair of iron butt hinges. The front incorporates a lock mechanism with an internal catch. The chest sits upon a slightly projecting moulded plinth base. No maker marks are visible.
