George III Style Mahogany Astragal Glazed Bookcase Top
Description
A George III style mahogany glazed cabinet top, designed as the upper portion of a two-piece furniture unit such as a secretaire or bureau bookcase. The rectangular carcass features a stepped cornice over twin doors, each fitted with decorative astragal glazing bars in a Gothic-arch pattern. The interior is fitted with two shelves. The flat, un-moulded base indicates the piece was constructed to sit atop a lower chest or desk section. A single keyhole is located on the right-hand door.
