Two Items: A Portable Wooden Baptismal Font and a Judaic Etched Brass Charger
Description
This lot consists of two distinct religious items: a portable church baptismal font and a decorative Judaic brass charger. The pedestal is constructed from dark-stained wood with an octagonal profile, featuring white-finished patriarchal crosses, also known as the Cross of Lorraine, on four of its facets. The top surface is inset with an octagonal mirror glass panel with a central circular aperture that houses a recessed, polished stainless steel basin. This form of pedestal is consistent with modern centenary portable church furnishings. Accompanying the stand is a circular brass plate or charger, intricately decorated with etched foliate and floral scrollwork and featuring traces of red and green polychrome infill. At the centre of the plate is a prominent six-pointed Star of David (Magen David), a central element of Jewish iconography. No maker’s marks, signatures, or factory stamps are visible on either item. A white adhesive lot label with the handwritten number 9210 is present on the mirrored top.
