An Assortment of Decorative Ceramics and Commemorative Wares Including Coalport Bird Plates and a 1937 Leeds Coronation Plate
Description
An assortment of decorative ceramics and household objects. The collection includes a group of fine bone china plates from the John Gould Birds of Great Britain series, produced by Coalport. These plates feature transfer-printed ornithological illustrations and are accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity for the plate titled The Linnet, which states it is a numbered limited edition.
Included is a 1937 coronation commemorative plate for the City of Leeds, featuring a pink-washed border and central transfer-printed portraits of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth within a floral wreath. The circular inscription reads: CITY OF LEEDS, THESE PLAQUES WERE PRESENTED AS A MEMENTO OF THE CORONATION, BY AMBROSE EDMUND BUTLER J.P. OF LEEDS, LORD MAYOR OF THE CITY, TO THE 80,000 CHILDREN OF LEEDS.
The lot also contains a circular decorative plate featuring a central figure in traditional Southeast Asian-style attire, executed in gold and ochre tones on a black ground. There is a large oval earthenware platter with a scalloped edge and a transfer-printed floral and scroll border in grey-blue. Additional items include a contemporary-style matte black glazed ceramic vase with a multi-lobed, bulbous form, a framed rectangular plaque depicting a rural thatched cottage in bas-relief, and several small ceramic stylized evergreen tree figurines with green and white glazing.
