Description

A collection of commemorative items and records pertaining to the Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Centaur (R06), primarily documenting the ship’s fourth commission between 1963 and 1965. The collection includes a green cloth-bound hardback commission book titled The Fourth Commission of H.M.S. Centaur. The front cover is gilt-blocked with the ship’s badge, featuring a centaur with a bow and arrow beneath a naval crown, with the Latin motto Celeriter Ferox (Swiftly Fierce) below.

The lot further includes two framed souvenir dioramas or pictures. Each is set against a dark background and features the ship’s profile with the printed text HMS Centaur and Hong Kong 1964. Both displays include the ship’s badge and motto. One diorama shows the vessel in a standard profile view, while the other depicts the ship against a coastal silhouette with city lights, representing a night scene in Hong Kong. Both are housed in matching light-coloured wooden frames.

Completing the collection are three original black and white photographs depicting HMS Centaur at sea. These images capture various aspects of the carrier, including views of the flight deck and hull from different elevations.
