Description

A trio of Soviet military awards from the mid to late 20th century. The collection comprises one campaign medal and two commemorative jubilee medals. The first is a Jubilee Medal 70 Years of the Armed Forces of the USSR, established in 1988. It is struck in brass and features on the obverse the profiles of a soldier, sailor, and pilot above the dates 1918 and 1988. It is suspended from a red ribbon with green edges and a central blue and yellow striped band on a pentagonal mount. The second is a Medal For the Defence of the Caucasus, established in 1944. Struck in brass, the obverse depicts Mount Elbrus with oil derricks and tanks below the Cyrillic inscription ZA OBORONU KAVKAZA. It is suspended from an olive-green ribbon with blue and red stripes on a pentagonal mount. The third is a Jubilee Medal 50 Years of the Armed Forces of the USSR, established in 1967 and issued in 1968. Struck in brass, the obverse shows the profiles of a Civil War era soldier in a budenovka and a modern Soviet soldier above the dates 1918-1968. It is suspended from a light blue ribbon with a central white stripe flanked by red lines on a pentagonal mount. Note: The handwritten tag for the 50th anniversary medal incorrectly identifies it as a Latvian service award.
