A Victorian Needlework Alphabet Sampler by Sarah Bunce Dated 1848
Description
A mid-19th-century needlework alphabet sampler, worked in coloured threads on a linen ground. The composition features multiple horizontal registers including several rows of uppercase alphabets in various decorative scripts and a row of numerals from 1 to 9. The lower portion of the sampler is decorated with various motifs, including a central vase of flowers, stylised floral sprigs, and geometric patterns. The piece is inscribed in the lower right-hand corner with the name Sarah Bunce and the date 1848. It is housed in a later gilt-effect moulded frame under glass.
