A Collection of Four 19th Century Earthenware Plates
Description
This lot comprises four 19th-century earthenware plates featuring a variety of decorative styles and patterns. The collection includes a circular plate decorated in underglaze blue with a central floral sunburst motif surrounded by a broad border of scrolling foliage and stylized leaves. Two plates feature scalloped, molded basketweave rims; one is decorated with a polychrome transfer-printed scene depicting figures in a pastoral landscape by a body of water with a blue line border, while the other features an exotic bird and floral motif with a red line border. The reverse of the pastoral scene plate bears a British Victorian diamond registration mark, which indicates a manufacturing date of 1851. The final piece is a circular nursery or commemorative plate with pink concentric line borders, featuring a central transfer-printed landscape titled Ray Charls Golding in black script.
