Lot 305:
A relief-moulded squirrel jug and a blue and white transfer-printed maritime charger
Description
A lot consisting of two ceramic items. The first is an earthenware relief-moulded jug featuring a three-dimensional squirrel figure perched upon a gnarled branch that extends to form the handle. The upper rim is decorated with moulded oak leaves and acorns, finished in naturalistic green, brown, and ochre glazes against a cream-coloured ground. The style is characteristic of mid-20th-century British earthenware by makers such as Burleigh Ware or Falcon Ware. No maker’s marks are visible. The second item is a large circular charger decorated with a blue and white transfer-printed maritime scene. The design depicts sailing vessels on water with a distant coastline featuring a windmill and buildings. A small auction label numbered 2819 is affixed to the front. No maker’s marks are visible.
Charger diameter: approximately 32 – 33 cm.
