Description
An assortment of antique and vintage folding hand fans, presented as a group for spares and repair. The collection includes examples constructed from various materials such as carved bone, mother-of-pearl, and both stained and gilded wood. The fans exhibit a range of decorative styles, featuring intricate pierced and carved sticks and guards with foliate and floral patterns. One example displays a heart-shaped reserve on the guard containing a painted figure in traditional dress. Hand-painted floral sprays and metallic gilt accents are visible on several of the paper and fine textile leaves. One fan features sticks and guards with mother-of-pearl inlay.
