A Pair of British Campaign Medals Egypt Medal 1882 and Khedive's Star 1882 pte a ross 2040 77 C&TC
Description
This lot consists of a pair of campaign medals awarded to Private A. Ross 2040 77 C&TC for service during the Anglo-Egyptian War of 1882. The first item is a silver Egypt Medal, 1882 issue. The obverse displays the diademed head of Queen Victoria with the legend VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX. The reverse depicts a sphinx on an ornamental plinth with the word EGYPT above and the date 1882 below. The rim is officially impressed with the recipient details PTE. A. ROSS. The medal is suspended from its original blue and white vertically striped ribbon. The second item is a bronze Khedive’s Star, 1882 issue, awarded by Khedive Tawfiq. This five-pointed star features a central circular medallion on the obverse showing the sphinx and pyramids, surrounded by a ring inscribed EGYPT 1882 and corresponding Arabic script. The reverse bears the crowned monogram of the Khedive. The star is suspended from a bronze crescent and star bar with a plain dark blue ribbon.
