A Replica Queen's Sudan Medal 1896-1898
Description
A replica of the Queen’s Sudan Medal (1896-1898) awarded for service in the Sudan campaign. The silver-coloured medal features the veiled head effigy of Queen Victoria on the obverse, surrounded by the inscription VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX. The reverse depicts a seated figure of Victory holding a laurel wreath and a palm branch, with a tablet below inscribed SUDAN and draped British and Egyptian flags behind. The edge of the medal is engraved 4368 .The medal is accompanied by a length of ribbon divided vertically into yellow and black halves with a narrow red stripe down the centre. The ribbon remains attached to the swivel suspension bar which has become detached from the medal disc.
