Lot 287:
Hinchcliffe or Similar Maker, Napoleonic French Imperial Guard Horse Artillery Model Diorama
Description
A hand-painted scale model diorama depicting the Horse Artillery of the Imperial Guard (Artillerie à Cheval de la Garde Impériale) from the Napoleonic era. The set comprises a six-horse team pulling a two-wheeled limber with a detachable field gun. The figures include five soldiers: three mounted drivers on the near-side horses and two gunners seated upon the limber. All figures are detailed in the characteristic uniform of the Guard Horse Artillery, consisting of dark blue hussar-style tunics with yellow braiding and fur colbacks topped with white plumes. The horses are finished with brown coats and outfitted with detailed harnesses and metal chain traces connecting the team. The artillery piece and limber feature spoked wheels and are finished in a traditional olive-green ordnance colour. The entire assembly is mounted on an elongated scenic base textured to represent a rutted dirt track with patches of moss and low-lying shrubbery. A small white paper inventory tag marked 9703 is adhered to the rump of one lead horse.
Approximate scale: 54mm (1/32 scale).
