Lot 256:
A Collection of Hand-Painted British Highland Infantry Toy Soldiers
Description
A collection of hand-painted toy soldiers depicting 19th-century British Highland Infantry, likely representing the 42nd Highlanders (The Black Watch). The collection is comprised of cast metal figures with a traditional gloss-painted finish. The group includes a mounted officer on a dark horse, two ensigns carrying the Union Jack and a black regimental colour, a bagpiper, and several infantrymen in various stances including marching and standing at ease. One figure is depicted as a casualty, positioned prone next to a fallen flag. The figures are mounted on rectangular bases, predominantly finished in green. The style and execution are consistent with traditional lead soldier manufacturers such as Ducal or Marlborough. No manufacturer marks or stamps are visible on the underside of the bases.
