Description

A collection of coins comprising UK commemorative cupro-nickel crowns, featuring numerous 1951 Festival of Britain 5 shilling pieces. The collection includes several examples housed in their original Royal Mint presentation boxes in maroon and green, which feature the Festival of Britain crest and the Royal Mint mark. These 1951 coins feature the portrait of King George VI and the St George and the Dragon reverse design by Benedetto Pistrucci. The group also includes various commemorative crowns for Queen Elizabeth II, such as the 1953 coronation issue featuring the cruciform shields reverse. The items are presented in a red tray and are found in various states of storage including original boxes, plastic flips, and protective capsules. A small white adhesive tag with the number 6571 is located at the bottom of the tray. The 1951 crown was the first UK commemorative coin produced in cupro-nickel rather than silver.
