A Collection of Victorian and Later Horn Items to include a Sterling Silver Mounted Beaker and a Gorky Art and Industry Silver Tipped Drinking Horn
Description
This collection consists of multiple horn objects featuring silver and white metal mounts. A Victorian sterling silver-mounted horn beaker of tapering cylindrical form has a hallmarked silver rim engraved with a presentation inscription and an applied shield-shaped plaque engraved Won By. The hallmarks on the rim include the Queen Victoria duty mark, the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the lowercase date letter a for 1875, with the maker mark SB in a rectangular punch. A Russian silver-mounted drinking horn, attributed to Gorky Art and Industry, features a curved body with niello-style engraved foliate patterns on the silver rim and the bird-head terminal. It includes a silver suspension chain and is stamped on the tip with the 875 silver standard mark. The collection also includes a horn serving fork with a white metal pointed terminal and an applied shield-shaped plaque, and a small plain horn drinking beaker.
