Lot 342:
An Assortment of Commemorative Gilt Porcelain and Blue and White Transfer-Printed Ceramics
Description
This collection of ceramics includes a commemorative gilt porcelain part service, a group of blue and white coffee ware, and an Art Nouveau style tray. The commemorative service features a lidded twin-handled bowl, a saucer, and a side plate, all decorated with an overglaze gilt honeycomb lattice pattern. The saucer is inscribed in gilt with the text FRANCES JANE MARTIN BORN SEPTEMBER 18 1872, suggesting a commission for a birth or christening. The blue and white coffee ware includes several coffee cans and saucers featuring transfer-printed landscape scenes in the Willow tradition, framed by geometric diaper borders and gilt rims. The large earthenware tray has a scalloped rim and is decorated with blue transfer-printed iris or lily motifs with sinuous stems characteristic of the Art Nouveau period. No factory marks are visible on the bases of the items.
Tray width: approximately 30 cm.
