Edwardian Sterling Silver Two-Handled Trophy Cup, Vaughton and Sons, Birmingham, 1901
Description
An Edwardian sterling silver two-handled trophy cup manufactured by Vaughton and Sons, hallmarked for Birmingham, 1901. The silver cup features a deep bowl with two swept handles, supported by a pedestal stem and mounted to a large, multi-tiered circular wooden base. The bowl is struck with a full set of English hallmarks including the maker mark V and S, the anchor for Birmingham, the lion passant for sterling silver, and the date letter b. The exterior of the bowl includes later engraved inscriptions for the years 2018 and 2019. The base is decorated with multiple applied silver shields and rectangular plates detailing historical winners, with visible names including Mrs O Sullivan 1977, Mr E. Dorman 1979, and Rhodes 2003. Two paper auction labels are present on the bowl.
