Description

A pair of sterling silver-cased salt and pepper mills of traditional capstan form. Each mill features a waisted circular body rising to a domed top surmounted by a knurled adjustment nut. The items are struck with a full set of British hallmarks on the lower edge of the body. These marks include the millesimal fineness mark 925, the anchor symbol for the Birmingham Assay Office, the lowercase date letter p for 1989, the lion passant for sterling silver, and the maker mark M&W for the silversmiths Mappin and Webb. These silver items are constructed with internal grinding mechanisms.
