Lot 235:
Two Edwardian sterling silver items comprising a hammered circular box and a pepperette
Description
A collection of two early 20th-century sterling silver items. The first is a circular silver lidded box, possibly a trinket or pill box, featuring a hand-hammered martelé finish influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement. The base is struck with the maker mark L&S in a shaped shield, a lion passant, an anchor, and a lowercase letter b in a shield, alongside the incised number 15271. These marks identify the maker as Levi and Salaman, assayed in Birmingham in 1901. The second item is a silver pepperette of baluster form with a pull-off perforated lid and ball finial, decorated with diagonal fluting to the lower body. The neck is struck with the maker mark JG in a shield, a lion passant, an anchor, and a capital letter K in a shield, identifying the maker as John Grinsell and Sons, assayed in Birmingham in 1909.
Weight: 102g (box).
