Lot 130:
A Replica British Army Albert Pattern Line Infantry Shako
Description
A modern replica of a mid-Victorian British Line Infantry Albert pattern shako, based on the regulation design used between 1844 and 1855. The headdress is constructed from black leather with a patent leather top and bands. It features a stamped brass shako plate with the Royal Arms and the Garter motto Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense, surmounted by a Victorian crown and flanked by trophies of war. The front is fitted with a white over red wool pom-pom on a metal stalk, which was the regulation distinction for Battalion Companies of the Line Infantry. The stalk is held in place by a black leather cockade with a central brass boss. This item is a reproduction intended for historical reenactment or display purposes and is visually similar to items marketed as French Napoleonic shakos.
Height of body: approximately 20 cm
