Lot 124:
A 20th-century William and Mary style painted lowboy dressing table
Description
A 20th-century revival lowboy or dressing table in the William and Mary style, consistent with French Country decorative themes. The piece is constructed from wood with a rectangular top featuring a natural finish and moulded edge. The body is finished in cream-coloured paint and contains five drawers arranged as three shallow drawers over two deeper drawers flanking a central kneehole. The kneehole is finished with a decoratively scalloped apron. Drawer fronts are fitted with brass batwing-style backplates and drop handles. The structure is supported by four turned legs with trumpet or inverted cup motifs, joined by a low-slung, flat, shaped stretcher. The legs terminate in turned bun feet. No maker’s marks, labels, or stamps are visible on the exterior or accessible parts of the piece.
