A Collection of Victorian Porcelain Christening Cups
Description
A collection of Victorian porcelain christening cups and commemorative mugs of varying sizes. Each vessel is of cylindrical form with a loop handle and features hand-painted or transfer-printed inscriptions, often accented with gilding. The collection includes a mug with a wide magenta-pink ground band and gilt foliate scrolls inscribed Jane Upton 1854, and a large white mug with gilt-line borders and scrollwork motifs inscribed in copper-coloured script Britton Field Febry 27th 1881. Another example features a repeating green and red foliate border at the rim inscribed Emily Kate Watkins 1873. A further mug is inscribed in gilt script Rebecca Holden, while another is decorated with hand-painted floral sprigs and a pink trellis-like pattern. No factory marks are visible on the bodies of the items; the bases are not shown. These pieces are characteristic of 19th-century English ceramic production.
