Lot 77:
A late 19th century brass cased carriage clock with alarm and carrying case
Description
A late 19th or early 20th-century brass-cased carriage clock, likely of French origin. The clock is housed in a gilded brass Corniche style case with bevelled glass panels to the sides and back, and a circular viewing window to the top for the escapement. It is surmounted by a hinged swinging handle. The white enamel dial features black Roman numeral hour markers and a subsidiary alarm dial with Arabic numerals, fitted with blued steel moon-style hands. To the rear, a hinged door opens to reveal a mechanical movement with a visible strike on a circular steel gong. The backplate features winding and setting squares and an S/F regulator scale. The clock is accompanied by its original fitted leather-covered outer carrying case with a sliding front shutter and a velvet-lined interior.
Height: Approximately 12.5 cm (excluding handle).
