Lot 12:
A Victorian Carved Walnut Pedestal Footstool
Description
A mid-Victorian period footstool of square form, constructed from solid walnut with a rich, natural grain. The piece features an over-stuffed upholstered top, currently finished in a later red and cream damask-patterned fabric accented with a coordinating gimp trim. The base is of complex turned construction, featuring a substantial central multi-turned pedestal column surrounded by four slender ring-turned spindles. This assembly is mounted upon a shaped quatrefoil base, supported by four splayed legs with decorative scroll-carved terminals. The design is characteristic of the mid-to-late 19th-century preference for ornate woodturning and robust silhouettes. 46cm H x 36cm W x 36cm D.
