A Collection of Decorative Objects including an Art Nouveau Brass Tray and Ethnographic Wood Carvings
Description
A diverse group of decorative arts and curiosities. The lot features a circular Art Nouveau style tray, circa 1890-1910, with a brass frame, stylised openwork handles, and a central painted panel depicting a leafy sprig. Included are three hand-carved dark wood figurines of East Asian sages or immortals, and a cast metal figural group of two individuals on a circular base. The collection further comprises a decorative cast metal stand with a pierced radiating spoke design, and a large embossed metal commemorative plaque or medallion featuring a figurative scene in relief. Completing the lot is an elongated hand-carved wooden ethnographic sculpture, depicting a human-like head on a stylised zoomorphic body with cross-hatched decorative patterns. Tray diameter: 34 cm. Condition report:
The items exhibit varying degrees of surface wear and dust consistent with age. There is noticeable oxidation and tarnish to the metal components, particularly the brass tray frame and the cast metal stand. The wooden carvings show minor surface abrasions and light scuffing. The painted panel of the tray remains intact with some light surface marks.
