Description

A pair of English Staffordshire earthenware serving platters, dating to the mid-19th century. Each piece is decorated in the classic Chinoiserie Willow pattern using the blue and white transferware technique. The landscape at the centre of each vessel depicts traditional narrative elements including a pagoda, a bridge with three figures, a weeping willow tree, and two birds in flight. The scenes are enclosed within intricate borders featuring geometric diaper patterns and floral motifs. The lot comprises one larger platter with a scalloped edge and one smaller platter of rounded rectangular form. The larger piece bears an older auction label numbered 7307. Larger platter approximately 46 cm x 37 cm; smaller platter approximately 36 cm x 28 cm.
