Description

This mixed lot comprises various items crafted from carved bone material, which appears to be bone. The jewellery selection includes a rigid bangle featuring an ornate yellow-toned metal decorative mount, a wide bracelet composed of rectangular panels with intricate openwork floral carving, and a yellow-toned metal stickpin set with multiple white imitation pearls. The collection further includes several folding pocketknives with cream-coloured scales, one displaying etched floral patterns, alongside various carved figurines, a cylindrical carved needle case, and a flat case with a relief-carved crest. Construction techniques include hand-carving, metal pinning, and fitted mounts. No hallmarks or purity stamps are visible; metal components appear to be base metal or gold-plated. The items likely date from the late 19th to early 20th century and show characteristics of Chinese export craftsmanship. The rigid bangle has an approximate internal diameter of 65mm. The panel bracelet measures approximately 180mm in length. The tray width is approximately 30cm.

Condition report:

The collection is in varied condition. Several pieces exhibit age-related cracking, desiccation lines, and surface wear. There is noticeable yellowing and discolouration across the carved elements. Metal components show signs of tarnishing and oxidation, with corrosion present on the steel blades of the pocketknives. Some minor losses or chips may be present to the delicate openwork carving of the panel bracelet.
