Lot 326:
Graduated Amber Bead Necklace
Description
A strand of graduated rondelle-shaped beads appearing to be composed of African copal or a similar resinous material, often referred to as African amber. The beads exhibit a saturated, opaque-to-translucent orange-yellow colour with slight natural variations throughout. The strand is currently assembled on a simple fibrous cord with knotted ends and lacks a metal clasp, hallmarks, or maker’s marks. This style is indicative of vintage African trade jewellery. The piece is accompanied by a Shelbys Auctioneers tag for Lot 325. Length approximately 55 cm; largest bead approximately 22 mm in diameter.
Condition report:
The beads are in good condition with minor surface variations and light wear consistent with the nature of the material. The fibrous cord is functional but basic; restringing is recommended for regular use.
