Large Assortment of Antique Chinese and European Carved Bone and Curios, Spares and Repairs, circa 1880-1920
Description
This extensive collection comprises a variety of antique and vintage decorative and functional objects, primarily constructed from carved bone, material, wood, and brass. The lot features a pair of late 19th-century opera glasses with brass fittings and polished barrels. Included is a small wooden box embellished with mother-of-pearl floral inlay. A significant portion of the lot consists of Chinese export-style carvings, including cylindrical needle cases, flat panels with intricate relief work depicting traditional scenes, and various gaming pieces. One specific panel bears Chinese characters signifying recreation or peace and happiness. The items are presented in a red plastic tray with additional components held in a green organiser and small cardboard boxes. Tray dimensions approximately 48cm by 34cm.
Condition report:
The lot is sold strictly for spares and repairs. Condition varies across the collection, with most items showing signs of heavy age-related wear, surface discolouration, and fragmentation. Several carved elements are broken or incomplete. The brass components on the opera glasses show oxidation and the barrels exhibit hairline cracks.
