Description

A diverse assembly of 19th and early 20th-century Mauchline ware and assorted treen, showcasing the intricate transfer-printing and woodworking techniques of the period. The highlight of the collection is a substantial octagonal sycamore box, likely by W. and A. Smith of Mauchline, featuring a central transfer of a domestic scene titled Take thy auld cloak about thee, bordered by a vibrant lithographed tartan pattern. Accompanying this are various topographical souvenir pieces, including a Melrose Abbey pin tray and a box depicting L’Apparition de la Vierge. The lot is complemented by folk art elements including three miniature carved shoes with incised detailing, a decorative paddle with pyrographic floral motifs, a pear-shaped carving, and a selection of turned vessels in contrasting light and dark timbers. One turned pot is finished with an embossed metal collar, typical of late Victorian decorative utility items. Largest box measures approximately 18cm in width.

Condition report:

The collection is in fair to good antique condition. There is visible surface wear, minor scuffing, and light scratches consistent with age and use. Some transfer designs show slight fading or minor loss to the lacquer. The metal components exhibit natural oxidation and the wooden surfaces have a developed patina. Structural integrity is generally good across all pieces with no major cracks or significant repairs noted.
