Birkmyre's Cloth and Various Makers, A Diverse Collection of Vintage Miniature Curios, Sewing Notions, and Novelty Trinkets, early to mid-20th Century
Description
An eclectic assortment of vintage and antique miniatures and decorative objects. The collection features a notable green-labelled Birkmyre’s Cloth retractable measuring tape, produced for the Gourock Ropework Co. Ltd., alongside a silver-toned circular tape measure. Horological interest is represented by two miniature clocks, one housed in a polished wooden case and another in a black-finished mantel-style case. Metalware includes a miniature brass and wood coffee grinder, two brass-toned whistles—one of ornate baluster form—and several small decorative tins, including a compact with a floral needlework lid and another featuring a heraldic crest. Ceramic and porcelain elements include a colourful bird figurine, delicate floral clusters, and a small animal figure. The lot is composed of various materials including brass, wood, porcelain, and tin, reflecting the diverse manufacturing styles of the period. Tray dimensions approximately 35cm x 25cm; individual items range from 2cm to 7cm in height.
Condition report:
The collection is in good vintage condition, showing general surface wear, minor abrasions, and age-related patina consistent with use and display. The ceramic floral clusters show some typical minor losses to the delicate petals. Measuring tapes remain largely intact, though mechanical retraction has not been tested for tension. The clocks are offered as decorative items; movements are untested and may require professional attention.
