Description

A comprehensive English canteen of silver-plated (EPNS) cutlery, manufactured in Sheffield, likely by the Grosvenor brand. The set is housed in a fitted wooden case with a vibrant blue velvet-lined interior. The flatware service features a traditional Old English pattern to the spoons and forks, while the knives are fitted with cream-coloured xylonite handles and polished steel blades. The blades bear circular maker’s marks characteristic of Sheffield production from the Art Deco period, circa 1930. The collection includes a substantial service comprising dinner and dessert knives, matching forks, soup spoons, dessert spoons, and teaspoons, alongside a two-piece carving set and a large serving spoon. The wooden case is constructed with brass hardware and retains its original internal fittings. Case dimensions: approximately 46 cm x 33 cm x 11 cm.

Condition report:

The set is in good vintage condition. The silver-plated elements show minor surface tarnish and light scratches consistent with age and regular use. The cream-coloured handles remain secure with some natural age-related mellowing to the colour. The wooden case shows light exterior scuffing and minor surface marks, but remains structurally sound with functioning hinges. The interior velvet lining is well-preserved with minimal fading or wear.
