Lot 312:
A Chinese Export Famille Rose Celadon-Glazed Porcelain Plate, Late 19th/Early 20th Century
Description
A Chinese Export porcelain plate of circular form, featuring a pale celadon-glazed ground. The interior is finely hand-painted in the Famille Rose palette with polychrome enamels, depicting a central composition of two long-tailed birds perched and in flight amongst blossoming peony branches and hovering butterflies. The rim is finished with a thin band of gilding. The reverse continues the celadon glaze, featuring a white-glazed centre containing a four-character underglaze blue square seal mark. This piece is characteristic of Canton ware produced for the export market during the late Qing Dynasty or early Republic period. Diameter: Approximately 8 inches (20.3 cm).
Condition report:
The plate is offered in good overall condition. There is minor rubbing and wear to the gilded rim and some light surface wear to the enamels consistent with age. The unglazed foot ring shows typical shelf wear and minor discolouration. No chips, cracks, or restorations are evident under visual inspection.
