Vintage Cast Metal Horse-Drawn Carriage Ornament with Driver, Ornate Foliate Panels, Circa 1950
Description
This decorative cast metal sculpture represents a Victorian-style horse-drawn carriage, likely intended as a desk ornament or a component of a novelty clock or music box assembly. The piece features a single horse in a dark-patinated finish, outfitted with a harness comprising leatherette straps and metal rings. A driver figure, dressed in a traditional top hat and overcoat, is seated at the front of the two-wheeled cart. The carriage body is distinguished by highly detailed, light-coloured metal side panels featuring raised foliate and floral motifs. While no manufacturer’s mark is visible, the construction and aesthetic are consistent with mid-20th-century decorative wares produced by firms such as the United Clock Company or similar European manufacturers of novelty miniatures. The interior of the cart contains a small inventory sticker numbered 6182. Dimensions: Approximately 21 cm in length.
Condition report:
The item is in good vintage condition with signs of age-related wear. There is visible surface dust and tarnish to the metallic elements, particularly the ornate side panels. The harness straps show some stiffness and wear consistent with age. The piece appears to be structurally complete, though it may have originally been part of a larger assembly such as a clock base or music box. No significant breaks or repairs are noted.
