Lot 272:
A Chinese Cloisonne Enamel Hanging Vessel with Butterfly and Floral Decoration
Description
A Chinese cloisonne enamel hanging vessel of globular form, likely dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. The piece is constructed from an enamelled metal body, probably brass, featuring a deep chocolate brown ground. The exterior is intricately decorated with polychrome motifs of butterflies and various flowering plants, including peonies and chrysanthemums, rendered in vibrant colours. A decorative foliate band on a light-coloured ground encircles the shoulder of the vessel. The interior is finished with a characteristic bright turquoise blue enamel. The vessel is fitted with a wirework metal harness and a linked suspension chain for hanging. Width: Approximately 8 to 9 inches.
Condition report:
The vessel is in good overall condition, showing light surface wear and a natural patina consistent with its age. There are no significant chips, cracks, or losses to the enamel. The metal harness and suspension chain remain intact with minor surface oxidisation.
