Description

A late 19th-century Victorian cranberry glass decanter of elegant proportions, likely of British origin. The piece features a hand-blown bulbous body in a rich ruby-toned cranberry glass, terminating in a distinctive wide, ruffled ‘piecrust’ or crimped base. The vessel transitions to a slender, applied clear glass neck. It is accompanied by a clear glass stopper designed with a decorative multi-tiered, tapered finial. This style of glassware was highly popular in British glassmaking centres such as Stourbridge during the late Victorian era, showcasing the vibrant colour achieved through the addition of gold chloride to the glass melt. The item bears a small circular sticker marked 6182 and a previous auction label for Lot 259. Height: Approximately 38 cm.

Condition report:

The item is presented in good overall condition, commensurate with age. No visible chips, cracks, or significant abrasions were noted upon inspection. The stopper appears to be original to the piece and fits well.
