Lot 255:
A Mid-20th Century Seven-Piece Petit Point and Gilt Metal Dressing Table Suite
Description
A comprehensive vintage vanity collection in the manner of Regent of London, comprising a rectangular glass-topped tray, a hand mirror, a hair brush, a clothes brush, a lidded vanity jar, and a pair of small candlesticks. The suite is constructed from ornate cast metal frames featuring scrolled foliate motifs, now displaying a heavy green verdigris patina. Each piece is inset with floral petit point embroidery panels depicting rose bouquets on a cream ground. The tray is designed with decorative handles and feet, encasing a white lace doily beneath a protective glass panel. The vanity jar consists of a clear moulded glass body with a coordinating metal and textile lid. This set is characteristic of mid-century British boudoir accessories, blending traditional needlework with mass-produced decorative metalwork. Tray measures approximately 34 cm x 20 cm.
Condition report:
The set is in aged condition with significant oxidation and verdigris across all metal components. The petit point textile inserts and the lace doily show visible discolouration, fading, and staining. The glass tray top and moulded jar remain free of major chips or cracks, though they exhibit general surface scratches and wear consistent with regular use. The bristles on the brushes show some splaying and age-related wear.
