A Collection of Victorian and Later Carved Bone and Decorative Objects
Description
A comprehensive collection of Victorian and later decorative and functional objects, primarily composed of carved bone. The assortment features a variety of personal jewellery, including multiple beaded necklaces and bangles of varying thicknesses. Significant items include a hair comb with intricate pierced floral openwork, a figural letter opener with a handle carved as a musician, and a tatting shuttle. The lot further comprises a cylindrical needle case, a series of turned bone slats, a small hand-form pendant, and a spoon with an engraved silver-toned metal bowl depicting a bird motif and a carved handle. The pieces exhibit diverse decorative techniques such as deep relief carving and precision turning, consistent with late 19th-century craftsmanship. No maker’s marks or hallmarks are visible. Largest item approximately 22cm in length.
Condition report:
The collection is in fair to good condition overall. Most items show expected age-related discolouration and surface grime.
