Description

A pair of mid-20th century Russian open salt cellars, likely of Soviet origin. Each vessel consists of a thick-walled, pressed glass insert with a pale yellow-green tint, set into a decorative gilded metal mount. The mounts are embellished with a repeating stylised floral petal motif in maroon and white champlevé enamel. The underside of the metalwork is stamped with the mark “BOMBEI” and the numerical code “502”. These items are characteristic of the traditional Russian folk-art influence prevalent in mid-century decorative metalware. One vessel retains a paper inventory label numbered “6182”. Diameter approximately 45 mm each.

Condition report:

The collection is in fair condition. There is significant verdigris corrosion and oxidation present on the metal mounts, particularly at the junctions and undersides. The gilding shows visible wear and thinning. The glass inserts exhibit heavy internal staining and residue from previous use, though they remain free of chips or cracks.
