The map features a decorative title cartouche in the upper left and a scale bar cartouche. Inscribed Christophorus Saxton descrip and William Kip sculp within the scale cartouche. This map was engraved by Kip after Saxton’s earlier surveys for an edition of William Camden’s Britannia, first published in this format in 1607. The work features hand-tinted highlights in green, yellow, and blue. It is presented under glass in a dark-toned frame with a narrow, beaded gilt inner border.
13 x 16 in.
Condition report:
The paper exhibits significant age-related discoloration, toning, and visible staining, particularly in the upper right and lower left areas. There are prominent horizontal and vertical creases consistent with the map\'s historical folding into an atlas. The hand-colouring remains visible but shows signs of age-related fading. The frame is in generally good condition with minor surface wear and scuffing to the edges.
