A Collection of Victorian Brass Postal Scales and Desk Accessories on an Inlaid Tray
Description
This collection features several Victorian-style brass postal and apothecary scales accompanied by various desk accessories. The group includes three balance scales of brass construction; one is mounted on a black-finished cast iron base, another on a shaped wooden base featuring a central oval ceramic plaque with a classical scene, and a third on a rectangular wooden base with recessed wells for weights. Also included is a circular desk accessory with a tortoiseshell-effect finish and a small circular ceramic box or lid featuring a polychrome pastoral scene of figures. The items are presented on a large oval wooden tray with a dark-toned finish, decorated with inlaid floral and foliate motifs, possibly mother-of-pearl, at the center and along the rim. A small white inventory label marked G182 is present on one wooden scale base.
